First Blog...It’s our 1 year anniversary! Yeah!

About this time last year Tots2Teens Allergies was launched! The last one year has been eventful and we are excited to have supported many families with children with allergies, educated a lot of parents/ people on allergies especially food allergies and reached a lot of people. As part of our 1 year anniversary, we are launching our Blogs! Yeah! Exciting times ahead!

As this is our first blog post, I thought it would be great to start with the first set of questions people have when they first see something new - What? Why? How?

Bringing it closer home, you might have these questions about Tots2Teens Allergies. To answer these questions, I will use this medium to touch base and share my inspiration for starting Tots2Teens Allergies.

To introduce myself, My name is Dr. Uche Okorji-Obike. As you may be aware, my daughter had severe eczema as a baby and was diagnosed with Cow’s milk protein allergy and Egg allergy at 3months. It was a difficult journey at the time – something no parent, especially a first-time parent, wants to experience. Following my daughter overcoming these, I started Tots2Teens Allergies to educate people on allergies, equip people with the tools they need to support someone with allergies esp. food allergies and encourage people who may be going through allergies with their children.

You might wonder why children? Most allergies start very early in life, especially food allergies. It’s important to have the right resources to help manage the situation. As a scientist with research experience in inflammation (which is the underlying mechanism of allergies), I am excited to share my knowledge to help people understand better. As a mum, who has experienced this with her child, it brings the subject matter home, and I am passionate about helping other people.

With this blog, Tots2Teens Allergies will be using this space to share more information on the subject of allergies, information to support parents and families as they journey through parenting, especially parents of children with allergies; people working with children in daycares, nurseries and schools. I hope you see it as a good opportunity to engage with us, comment, share your thoughts and ask questions.

In the meantime, my team and I would like to engage with you.

Much love,

Dr Uche
